Five more senior roles
For each role: a sample summary for a senior candidate (fictional, like the full examples), what to put at the top, and the skills current US postings mention most, from our own sample taken in October 2026.
Director résumé
Director of finance operations with 14 years in healthcare services. Runs a 60-person shared-services team across accounts payable, payroll and billing, and cut the monthly close from 12 days to 6 while the company doubled in size.
Lead with the function you run and its size (people, budget, sites), one result that changed how the business works, and the departments you work across. A director résumé is read for judgment as much as output, so show a decision you made and what came of it.

How we counted
OneResume's own sample, not a survey: 71 postings from JSearch (Google for Jobs) (50) and The Muse (21). Current US postings from JSearch (Google for Jobs, posted in the previous month) and The Muse (senior and management levels). Duplicates removed; only postings whose title matches the role and whose description is at least 800 characters are counted. A posting counts toward a term when the term or one of its listed variants appears in the description as a whole word.
Terms we checked: P&L ownership, Budgeting, Forecasting, Strategic planning, Stakeholder management, Cross-functional leadership, Change management, Risk management, Vendor management, KPIs, OKRs, Hiring and team building, Coaching and mentoring, Performance management, Process improvement, Data analysis, Excel, Compliance, Customer experience, Communication skills, Roadmap, Go-to-market, Revenue growth, Executive communication, Agile, Transformation, Program management.
Engineering manager résumé
Engineering manager with 12 years building payments infrastructure, the last five leading teams. Grew a platform group from 6 to 22 engineers across three teams, cut production incidents by 40% with an on-call and review overhaul, and still owns system design for the ledger service.
Lead with the teams you built (how many engineers, how you hired and grew them), delivery and reliability results, and enough technical depth to show you can still review a design. Name the stack the posting names when you have used it.

This is a small sample, so read the order as a rough guide: a term one or two postings apart from its neighbour could swap places in a different month.

Lead with the size of the operation (people, shifts, sites, volume), then safety, cost and service-level results with numbers, and the improvement methods you used to get them. Budget ownership belongs near the top if you have it.

Lead with revenue against quota, team size and territory, then forecasting accuracy and pipeline discipline, and how you coach reps. Sales résumés live or die on numbers, so every role should carry at least one.

How much of a long career to show
A 25-year career doesn't need 25 years of bullets. Give the last 10 to 15 years full detail, keep older roles to a line each (or one "Earlier career" line), and drop graduation years if they date you. The top of page one is what every reader sees first, so that's where your most recent and most relevant results belong.
The full guide, with the rule at 15, 20 and 30 years, a worked 20-year résumé and where US age-discrimination law fits in, is how far back should a résumé go. If you're moving into a new field as well, start with the career change guide.
Questions people ask
How long should a senior résumé be?
Two pages is normal for 15 or more years of experience. Use the first page for your summary and your two most recent roles, and condense older roles to a line or two each. Three pages is rarely needed outside academia and some government roles.
How far back should a résumé go?
Show the last 10 to 15 years in detail, list older roles briefly or group them under one line, and leave graduation years off if they date you. The full guide covers each case. How far back a résumé should go
Should an experienced professional use a functional résumé?
No. Recruiters distrust résumés that drop dates and employers. Use reverse-chronological order, or a hybrid with a skills section above your history if you are changing fields.
Where do the keyword counts come from?
From OneResume's own sample of current US job postings for each role, pulled from JSearch (Google for Jobs) and The Muse. We count how many postings mention each skill. The sample size and month are shown with every list, and each list has a note on how we counted.
Are the people in these examples real?
No. The people, employers and job postings are fictional, written to read like real senior résumés. The tailored versions are real output: OneResume's tailoring engine was run on each sample, and any changes we made by hand are listed on the page.
Can I use these résumés as templates?
Yes. Each example has a free Word download you can edit. In OneResume, the Clean template is free, and Professional, Modern and Compact come with Pro.
