Claude Connectors for Job Seekers: The Ones That Matter and How to Add Them (2026)
What Claude connectors are, which ones actually help a job search, how to add a custom connector in about a minute, what a day of job searching looks like with them, the security checklist, and what a connector must never do.
TL;DR: A Claude connector lets Claude read and act on something outside the chat, through the open MCP standard. For a job search, the connectors worth having are the ones that hold your documents, your email and calendar, your notes, and your actual job-search data. Adding one takes about a minute. Below: what they are, the ones that matter, how to add a custom connector, what a day looks like with them, the security checklist, and what a connector will not do.
Key takeaways
- A connector is an MCP server with a nicer name. Any custom connector you add to Claude will usually also work in ChatGPT and Grok.
- The connector that changes a job search is the one that knows your real experience: with OneResume connected, Claude finds jobs, tailors a fact-checked résumé, drafts outreach and updates your tracker from one chat.
- Documents, email, calendar and notes connectors cover the logistics: cover letters saved in Drive, interview invites in your calendar, notes in Notion.
- Adding a custom connector: Customize, Connectors, Add custom connector, paste the URL, approve on the tool's own screen. No tokens.
- No connector should submit applications for you. The good ones draft; you send.
What a Claude connector is
Claude on its own sees only what is in the chat. A connector gives it a door to something else: your files, your inbox, your calendar, or an app's data and actions. Technically it is an MCP server, where MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard that Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, Cursor and others support, which is why one connector tends to work across assistants.
Two kinds show up in Claude:
- Directory connectors. First-party integrations you switch on from Claude's connector directory.
- Custom connectors. Any MCP server you add by URL. This is how specialised tools, including job-search tools, plug in.
Every connector asks for your approval on its own sign-in screen, and you can disconnect it from Claude at any time.
| Directory connector | Custom connector | |
|---|---|---|
| How you add it | Toggle in Claude's directory | Paste a URL under Add custom connector |
| Who built it | The tool's vendor, listed by Anthropic | Anyone running an MCP server, including the tool's vendor |
| Sign-in | The tool's own OAuth screen | The tool's own OAuth screen (or a token for tools without sign-in) |
| Works in ChatGPT and Grok too | Usually, through their own directories | Usually, with the same URL |
| Example for a job search | Google Drive, Gmail, Calendar, Notion | OneResume |
The connectors that matter in a job search
1. Your job-search data: OneResume
This is the one that changes what Claude can do. With OneResume connected, Claude reads your master profile, your value proposition, your job preferences and every application in your tracker, and it can:
- Run your daily job search across live listings, skip what you have already tracked, and rank the rest by match.
- Tailor a résumé for a posting from your real history. OneResume writes it, fact-checks it against your profile, scores it for screening software and saves it with the PDF.
- Write the cover letter, find the hiring manager and draft a LinkedIn note and an email, prep you for the interview.
- Mark an application applied when you say so and set the follow-up date.
What it will not do is submit or send. You approve every step. Setup is one URL; OneResume Pro enables the connector.
2. Your documents: Google Drive (or your document store)
Where the PDFs live. With a documents connector, "find the cover letter I wrote for the Help Scout role and summarise it" works, and Claude can read past versions when you want to reuse a story.
3. Your email: Gmail (or your mail provider)
Recruiter threads, scheduling, follow-ups. A mail connector lets Claude find the last message from a recruiter, draft a reply in context, and tell you which conversations have gone quiet. Keep it read-and-draft; send the messages yourself.
4. Your calendar
Interview slots, prep blocks, follow-up reminders. "What interviews do I have this week and what did I apply for" is a one-line question when the calendar and OneResume are both connected.
5. Your notes: Notion (or similar)
Interview debriefs, questions you were asked, company research. A notes connector lets Claude pull "what did they ask me last time" into prep for the next round.
6. Web search (built in)
Not a connector, but it is how Claude finds the hiring manager's title or a company's recent news when you ask it to draft outreach. OneResume's outreach tool uses it alongside your profile.
What is not on the list: a LinkedIn connector. There is no official one, and tools that scrape LinkedIn on your behalf risk your account. Paste the posting or the profile text into the chat instead; with OneResume connected, "here is my LinkedIn About section, rewrite it from what you know about me" works without a LinkedIn connector at all.
How to add a custom connector (about a minute)
- In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, then Add custom connector.
- Paste the connector's URL. For OneResume it is the one on the connector page.
- Click Add. A tab opens on the tool's own site; sign in and click Approve.
- Start a new chat and ask for something. The first time, Claude will show the tools the connector provides.
No API keys, nothing to install. If you use Claude Code or Cursor, the same URL adds there with one command, listed on the same page.
If it does not show up: make sure you added it under Connectors, not as a file; check that you approved on the tool's tab rather than closing it; and on the free plan, confirm you have not already used the single custom-connector slot. If Claude keeps asking you to sign in, disconnect the connector from the tool's side (in OneResume, the Connections page) and add it again.
A day of job searching with connectors
What this looks like in practice, with OneResume, documents, email and calendar connected. Each step is one message; you approve each action.
Morning: "Run my daily job search." Claude loads your preferences and tracker, searches live listings, skips what you already have, and returns a shortlist ranked by match with a one-line reason for each. You pick two.
"Go ahead with the first two." For each, Claude reads the posting, OneResume tailors and fact-checks a résumé, saves it with the PDF and starts the cover letter. The summary tells you the honest gaps.
"Find the hiring manager for the first one and draft a note. Don't send anything." Claude searches, names the person with a confidence note, and drafts a LinkedIn message under 200 characters and an email, both from your value proposition. You read, edit, and send them yourself.
Afternoon: "Any recruiter emails I haven't answered?" The mail connector lists the threads; you ask for a draft reply to one, in context.
"What interviews do I have this week?" The calendar connector answers; "prep me for Thursday's" pulls the saved application and generates likely questions with the evidence from your résumé.
Evening: "I applied to the first one." OneResume marks it applied and sets the follow-up date a week out. Tomorrow's search skips it.
None of this required opening five apps. All of it required your click at the moments that matter.
The security checklist before you add any connector
Connectors are powerful because they can read and act. Before you add one, check:
- Sign-in is OAuth, on the tool's own screen. Never paste a password into a chat. A connector that asks you to is a bad connector.
- It says what it can read and change. OneResume lists it on the approval screen and in the privacy policy.
- Actions need your confirmation. Reading is fine; saving, sending or submitting should ask.
- Tokens expire and can be revoked. OneResume's expire hourly, are stored hashed, and any app can be disconnected from your account in one click.
- You know what the AI provider keeps. The assistant's own data terms apply to what passes through the chat. Read them once.
- It never submits or sends as you. This is the line. A connector that applies to jobs on your behalf has decided your reputation is worth less than its volume.
What a connector can and cannot do
Can: read what you allow, draft, search, save to the connected app, and act when you ask. Each action in a well-built connector is confirmed by you.
Cannot, if it is built responsibly: submit an application on a company's site, send email or LinkedIn messages as you, or invent experience. OneResume's connector refuses the first two outright, and every résumé it saves is checked against your profile so the third does not happen quietly.
Claude Code and Cursor
If you live in a terminal or an editor, the same connector adds there. In Claude Code it is one command with the connector URL, listed on the connector page; in Cursor it is an entry in the MCP settings. The tools are identical: the daily search, tailoring, outreach and tracker all work from a coding session, which is where some people would rather run them.
Is it worth it?
If you apply to one job a quarter, no. If you are in an active search, a connector turns the chat you already use into the place your job search happens: profile, search, tailoring, outreach and tracking in one window, with you approving each step. The demo is 90 seconds and shows a real run.
Prompts that work once you are connected
Connectors make Claude useful in proportion to how specific your asks are. These are the ones that earn their keep, grouped by connector.
With OneResume
Run my daily job search. Skip anything already in my tracker and tell me why each of the top five is a fit.
Tailor my résumé for this posting and list the requirements I do not clearly meet before you save anything.
Write the cover letter for the application you just saved. Under 250 words, from my real experience only.
Find the hiring manager for the Help Scout application and draft a LinkedIn note under 200 characters and an email. Don't send anything.
What have I applied to this month, and which ones are past their follow-up date?
With documents, email and calendar
Find the last three cover letters I saved and tell me which story I keep reusing.
Which recruiter threads in my inbox have gone more than five days without a reply from me? Draft a two-line follow-up for the oldest.
Put a 45-minute prep block the evening before each interview on my calendar this week, and pull the saved application for each into a note.
Across connectors
I applied to the first one. Mark it applied in OneResume, set the follow-up for a week out, and add the follow-up to my calendar.
The pattern is the same every time: name the connector's data, say what you want done, and say what must not happen without you.
Connectors, Projects and pasting: which to use for what
A Claude Project holds documents you upload; a connector reaches live data in another app. They are not competitors, and most job seekers end up with both.
- Use a Project for things that do not change often and that you want Claude to read every time: your interview stories, your rules for how it should write, a list of companies you are watching.
- Use a connector for things that change daily and live elsewhere: new job listings, your tracker, your inbox, your calendar, the résumé that was tailored yesterday.
- Paste when it is a one-off: a single posting, a LinkedIn About section you want rewritten, a form question you need answered in your voice.
The combination that works: rules and stories in a Project, OneResume and your calendar as connectors, and the posting pasted into the chat.
If you use ChatGPT or Grok instead
The same OneResume URL works in all three, with slightly different menus. In ChatGPT on the web, open Plugins, then Personal, then Add, and choose Add custom MCP server; pick OAuth, approve on the OneResume tab, then type the @ sign in a new chat and pick OneResume. In Grok, open the connectors page, choose New Connector and then Custom, paste the URL and approve. The tools, the guardrails and the approval steps are identical; only the chat window changes. Step-by-step instructions for each client are on the connector page.
Plans, limits and what they cost
Claude's connector limits are set by Claude's plan, not by the connector. At the time of writing the free plan allows one custom connector, which is enough for OneResume, and paid plans allow more; check Claude's current plan page since this changes. On the OneResume side, the connector is included in Pro, Pro+ and Career Coach plans, with Pro starting at $19 a month; there is no separate charge for using it from Claude, ChatGPT or Grok. The directory connectors for documents, email and calendar are free with the accounts you already have.

Frequently Asked Questions
Claude ships a directory of first-party connectors for common tools (documents, email, calendar, notes and project tools) and lets you add any custom connector by URL. A custom connector is an MCP server; OneResume's job-search connector is one of those.
Yes. Both support the same open standard, MCP, so a connector built for one usually works in the other. OneResume adds to Claude as a custom connector and to ChatGPT as a custom MCP server, with the same URL.
At the time of writing, the free plan allows one custom connector, and paid plans allow more. Check Claude's current plan page, since limits change. OneResume's connector works on any Claude plan; OneResume Pro enables it on our side.
Connector is Claude's word for it. Under the hood a connector is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, the open standard AI assistants use to reach outside tools and data.
OneResume's connector will not, by design. It finds, tailors, drafts and tracks; you submit every application and send every message. Tools that auto-submit exist, but they trade accuracy and reputation for volume.
A well-built connector asks for your approval on its own sign-in screen, scopes access to your account, expires its tokens and can be disconnected in one click. Before adding any connector, check that it uses OAuth rather than a pasted password, says what it can read and change, and never acts without your confirmation.
